Vascular Access Devices
Description 
This full day competency-based workshop will prepare the community healthcare provider with the knowledge and skills to care for children requiring a central vascular access device. Participants will have the opportunity to practice skills related to the care of a child requiring this technology.
Objectives
- Differentiate between a peripheral and central vascular access device (CVAD)
- Distinguish between the types of CVADs seen in pediatric community settings and their indications
- Explain the common CVAD complications and prevention strategies
- Demonstrate how to heparin lock a CVAD
- Demonstrate how to perform routine cap and dressing changes for a CVAD
- Demonstrate how to access a subcutaneous port
