Nursing Care of the Child with Bronchiolitis

Description

Recommended for nurses caring for pediatric patients diagnosed with a viral lower respiratory tract illness. This webinar will review nursing care for a pediatric patient with bronchiolitis. A brief overview of respiratory assessments will be discussed, signs and symptoms of respiratory distress, nursing interventions in the management of bronchiolitis and recognition of deterioration.

Objectives: 

  1. Recognize the signs and symptoms, causes, risk factors, course of disease, treatments and prevention of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and bronchiolitis 
  2. Review anatomical differences between infants/young children and adults and how respiratory care may differ for the paediatric population 
  3. Understand appropriate nursing interventions for bronchiolitis and identify when to escalate concerns 
  4. Apply the Bronchiolitis Severity Scoring tool to a patient scenario 
  5. Understand discharge criteria and provide discharge teaching
