DESCRIPTION:\n\nDescription \n\n\n\nThis full day competency-based workshop will prepare the community healthcare provider with the knowledge and skills to care for children requiring a central vascular access device.  Participants will have the opportunity to practice skills related to the care of a child requiring this technology.\n\n\n\nObjectives\n\n\n\n\nDifferentiate between a peripheral and central vascular access device (CVAD)\n\n\n\nDistinguish between the types of CVADs seen in pediatric community settings and their indications \n\n\n\nExplain the common CVAD complications and prevention strategies \n\n\n\nDemonstrate how to heparin lock a CVAD\n\n\n\nDemonstrate how to perform routine cap and dressing changes for a CVAD \n\n\n\nDemonstrate how to access a subcutaneous port\n\n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\nSickKids Simulation Centre175 Elizabeth Street, Simulation Centre, Training Room DToronto, ON\n\n\n\nPlease note that this workshop is Located in the new Support Tower on the corner of Elizabeth and Elm Street.
